Former Vice President Mike Pence’s bid for the 2024 presidential nomination has reached an important milestone. His campaign recently announced that they have surpassed the requirement of 40,000 donors, solidifying his qualification for the first Republican presidential debate. This televised debate, which will be hosted by Fox News, is slated to take place on August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Pence joins a growing list of contenders who have met the necessary criteria, including prominent figures like former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Tim Scott, and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. The former vice president’s campaign made a point to highlight their transparency by contacting the Republican National Committee (RNC) first and providing verification of their donor statistics. Additionally, they emphasized their widespread support by obtaining donors from 40 different states, exceeding the RNC’s requirement of donors from at least 20 states. Remarkably, Pence achieved this feat in just nine weeks, surpassing some of his competitors in terms of speed.
Despite Pence’s commendable efforts, recent polls consistently reveal that he remains in the single digits among potential Republican primary voters. Trump, on the other hand, continues to lead the pack as the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP nomination. Nevertheless, Pence managed to capture attention last week following Trump’s indictment, resulting in a public exchange between the two regarding the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Pence’s campaign maintains confidence in their ability to compete with the necessary resources, and they have openly called on Trump to participate in the upcoming debate.
