The United States military has launched another strike in Yemen, targeting a Houthi-controlled site that posed a threat to commercial vessels in the Red Sea. This follows a series of airstrikes by the United States and Britain against Houthi rebels.

The strike was carried out by the Navy destroyer USS Carney, which used Tomahawk land attack missiles to eliminate the risk to commercial ships in the Red Sea. In the preceding day, the United States and Britain conducted multiple airstrikes, hitting 28 locations and over 60 targets in Houthi-controlled areas. President Joe Biden had warned of further strikes if Houthi activities continued.

In response to these airstrikes, the US Navy issued a warning to American-flagged vessels, advising them to avoid specific areas around Yemen in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden for the next 72 hours. There are concerns about possible retaliation from the Houthis, and officials have raised the possibility of an escalation in the region.

According to Houthi sources, there were at least five reported casualties and six injuries as a result of the US-led strikes. The attacks targeted various sites, including airfields, weapons depots, radar, and remote mountain areas. President Biden referred to the Houthis as a terrorist organization and stated that the US would respond to their actions. The Pentagon confirmed that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the military action.

The designation of the Houthis as a terrorist group is being considered by the Biden administration. It is yet to be fully assessed the extent of the damage caused by the airstrikes. The situation in Yemen remains uncertain, and there are ongoing tensions in the region.
