Lawsuit Claims American Nonprofit Contributed to Hamas Attacks
A U.S.-based nonprofit, the UNRWA USA National Committee, is facing legal action from survivors and families affected by the October 7 attacks. They accuse the nonprofit of providing support to Hamas, a terrorist organization.
The lawsuit alleges that funds raised by the nonprofit for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees indirectly assisted Hamas in carrying out the attacks.
The plaintiffs, including Israeli citizens and U.S.-Israeli dual nationals impacted by the attacks, seek accountability for the harm they have endured. The nonprofit and UNRWA have not publicly responded to the accusations. In response to concerns about UNRWA’s alleged involvement, countries like the U.S. have paused funding to the organization pending a UN investigation.
The lawsuit argues that UNRWA and Hamas were intertwined, with financial and operational support being disguised as humanitarian aid, potentially violating anti-terrorism laws. Republican senators have called for a criminal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department into UNRWA’s alleged support for Hamas, underlining the seriousness of the claims.
