During a recent interview, former CNN anchor Don Lemon engaged in a conversation with billionaire Elon Musk, delving into Musk’s controversial social media activities and the ongoing advertiser backlash experienced by X (formerly known as Twitter). Lemon confronted Musk about his contentious posts on Jewish people and the “great replacement theory,” asking him directly, “Why would you quote something you didn’t believe?”

In response to Lemon’s inquiries about his social media conduct, Musk rebuffed, asserting, “I don’t have to answer these questions. Don, the only reason I’m doing this interview is because you’re on the X platform, and you asked for it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t do this interview.” Musk displayed indifference towards media criticism, showing little concern about the perception of his online presence.

The discussion then shifted to the impact of Musk’s posts and his leadership style, pointing out the withdrawal of advertisers from X. Lemon probed Musk regarding the advertiser boycott, questioning, “Why is that not a form of free speech? They’re not beholden to advertise on X.” As the interview progressed, Musk grew impatient with Lemon’s questioning, cautioning him to “choose [his] question carefully.”

Lemon also pressed Musk on leadership accountability at X, to which Musk highlighted his commitment to upholding the principles of the First Amendment over profit. Following a tense exchange, Musk decided to end Lemon’s prospective show on X, signifying a shift in their professional relationship. Nonetheless, Musk offered Lemon the opportunity to air The Don Lemon Show on X, showcasing a conciliatory gesture amidst their disagreements.

Throughout the interview, Musk emphasized his dedication to preserving the First Amendment through his ownership of X, emphasizing his stance on free speech and platform responsibility.
