Joseph Ziegler, an IRS whistleblower known as “Whistleblower X,” recently penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, urging Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to examine the Hunter Biden case. Ziegler, a former special agent with the IRS’ Criminal Investigation Division, disclosed his identity during his testimony before the House Oversight committee. He expressed his concerns about the leniency shown towards Hunter Biden, stating that more serious charges, such as a tax felony, should have been pursued. Ziegler also highlighted potential inconsistencies between the investigation’s findings and President Biden’s statements regarding his involvement in his son’s business dealings abroad.

Ziegler, with the aim of promoting integrity and transparency in the ongoing investigation, explained his decision to come forward. He firmly believed that Hunter Biden had received preferential treatment, which deviated from the usual investigative process. Hence, he called for the appointment of a special counsel to address these concerns.

Although Ziegler acknowledged having disagreements with prosecutors in the past, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the Justice Department’s conduct in the Hunter Biden case. He went as far as calling their behavior obstructionist.

However, some Democrats in Congress and the White House have contested Ziegler’s and another whistleblower’s testimonies, accusing “MAGA Republicans” of taking a biased stance against Hunter Biden.

The Justice Department has responded to these allegations, asserting that the investigation into Hunter Biden’s activities is ongoing and impartial, with no undue influence. They maintain that they are committed to a fair and objective examination.

Overall, Joseph Ziegler’s op-ed emphasizes the necessity for transparency and public confidence in the U.S. justice system. His main point is that every taxpayer should receive equal treatment under the law.
