Israel Ramps Up Airstrikes on Iran-Linked Targets in Syria Amid Deepening Middle East Crisis
Israel has significantly increased its airstrikes in Syria, specifically targeting cargo trucks, infrastructure, and individuals involved in facilitating Iran’s support to regional proxies. This recent shift in strategy stems from Hamas fighters’ incursion into Israeli territory on October 7, which was later followed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and Lebanon.
Over the years, Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Iran-linked targets in Syria, particularly in areas where Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group, operates. However, the recent escalation involves more frequent and lethal air raids on Iranian arms transfers and air defense systems within Syria.
In the past, Israeli airstrikes in Syria adhered to unspoken rules, including firing warning shots before targeting vehicles engaged in arms transfers. However, Israel has now abandoned these restraints and is no longer cautious about inflicting significant casualties on Hezbollah.
