Israeli Military Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander in Southern Lebanon
In a major blow to Hezbollah, the Israeli military has confirmed the killing of Wissam Tawil, a high-ranking commander of the elite Radwan forces, in a strike conducted in southern Lebanon on Monday. Tawil was a key figure in directing Hezbollah’s operations in the region.
Escalation of Tensions
This strike comes after three months of increased tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli frontier. The recent surge in hostilities began after Hamas carried out an attack on Israel from Gaza on October 7th, resulting in the death of over 130 Hezbollah fighters, including members of the Radwan forces.
Deadliest Clash in Over a Decade
This recent series of clashes represents the most significant confrontation between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah since their war in 2006. The conflict saw Hezbollah launching guided rockets at Israeli positions, which were met with retaliatory Israeli air and artillery strikes.
