The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer, has issued a strong warning to citizens in Western countries, urging them to brace themselves for a possible “all-out war” with Russia. Emphasizing the importance of preparedness, Bauer highlighted the need for Western nations to be ready for significant changes in their lives as tensions continue to escalate.

Bauer acknowledged that the assumption of perpetual peace is no longer sustainable and that NATO forces are actively preparing for a potential conflict with Russia. He emphasized the involvement of civilians and the industrial base in these preparations, underscoring their critical role.

Bauer commended Sweden for taking proactive measures in January by urging its population to prepare for war. He saw this as a crucial starting point, given the uncertainty of the future and the inability to anticipate every possible scenario in the coming decades.

Bauer’s warning coincides with NATO’s largest exercise since the Cold War, where Alliance forces are conducting training exercises to simulate a hypothetical invasion by Russian troops. Reports from the German agency Bild also suggest that Germany’s armed forces are preparing for a potential hybrid Russian attack on NATO’s eastern flank, with concerns that a military conflict could erupt as early as February.

Admiral Rob Bauer called for NATO to transform in order to adapt to an era of unpredictability, where the outbreak of war is a realistic possibility. However, he maintained a positive outlook and encouraged the international community not to succumb to pessimism.

German experts believe that the likelihood of an armed confrontation between Russia and NATO is considerable, with a potential timeframe of five to eight years. This assessment highlights the need for preparedness and vigilance in Western nations.
