In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, there has been a notable development as Kyiv initiates drone strikes deeper into Russian territories. These strikes cover a significant area as a response to Putin’s invasion.

Regarding the targets of these strikes, warehouses and depots in various Russian regions, including Moscow, have been focused on. Previous strikes have already hit locations such as the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery and the Nevsky Mazut plant.

Although Ukraine has not publicly claimed responsibility for most of the strikes, the Kremlin has accused Kyiv of coordinating terrorist activities using drones. The latest incident took place in Cherepovets, where a drone strike hit a metallurgical factory owned by steelmaker Severstal.

There have been reports of drone attacks in regions like Belgorod, Voronezh, and Kursk, indicating a rise in hostilities. Additionally, there was a significant strike on a thermal plant in southern Siberia on Wednesday morning.

Acknowledging the drone strike, the acting governor of Vologda, Georgy Filimonov, described it as a “technological incident” that caused no casualties. Independent media outlet Verstka highlighted that this attack was one of the farthest recorded from Ukraine’s side, indicating an escalation in the frequency of strikes against Russia.

The scope of attacks has expanded to major cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, presenting considerable security challenges. The economic consequences of Ukraine’s increased targeting of Russian refineries and oil facilities have prompted Moscow to impose temporary bans on gasoline exports, intensifying the economic strain on Russia and emphasizing the broader implications of the conflict.
